Man United considering naming Solskjaer permanent boss before summer

The new full-time boss of Manchester United?

Manchester United are considering naming Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as their new permanent manager before the end of the season.

Solskjaer has been a revelation since joining after Jose Mourinho’s sacking.

Mourinho was sacked after the Liverpool loss and the club have not looked back since.

That is because Solskjaer has won 12, drawn two and lost one since taking over at Old Trafford.

Not only are the results improving, so are the performances.

Man United are starting to play the same kind of football they were under legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson with a plethora of attacking players impressing.

Paul Pogba is the biggest example, with the Frenchman finally looking like the player Man United thought they were getting when they brought him back to the club in 2016.

Now, Solskjaer has impressed so much he is supposedly winning the race to be the next Manchester United boss.

Solskjaer getting closer to that permanent job

That is because according to the Mirror, Man United have shelved plans to look for a new boss and are even considering appointing Solskjaer as their permanent boss before the end of the current campaign.

The Mirror’s report claims ‘United wanted an experienced coach to succeed Jose Mourinho’ but ‘have not acted on those plans because they have been so impressed with Solskjaer.’

Furthermore, ‘the club’s hierarchy are even considering naming Solskjaer as their full-time boss before the end of the campaign to remove any uncertainty about their future.’

If so, we could see Solskjaer appointed as United’s permanent boss very soon.

Solskjaer could also start planning for the summer transfer window if he was appointed soon, which would not be possible if a decision came later down the line.

New fears David de Gea will leave Man United & Valencia contract update

Another big figure Man United don’t want to leave is David De Gea.

The goalkeeper has been linked with a move away for some time now.

Now, there are new fears that De Gea could leave the club.

Mauro Icardi breaks silence on Inter Milan situation with statement

Icardi speaks out over his issues

Mauro Icardi has released a statement following his heavily reported fallout with Inter Millan over the past couple of weeks.

Icardi’s name has been in the headlines for some time now.

A lot of that talk revolved around his transfer situation at the San Siro but his and Inter’s relationship looks to have taken a drastic turn in recent weeks.

Icardi was stripped of the captaincy a couple of weeks ago.

The Argentine striker then refused to travel with Inter Milan for the Europa League clash with Rapid Vienna.

Mauro Icardi’s sister would then go on to blame his issues with Inter on having wife Wanda as his agent.

‘If he had a serious person behind him, who took care of him, this wouldn’t happen,” she explained.

Pierpaolo Marino then claimed this week the issue stems from Icardi’s leadership.

“The problem lies in the cohabitation with the locker room,” Mariano explained to CalcioMercato, as cited by SempreInter.

“The players felt discouraged with him as captain. The leadership has only ratified the situation.”

Now, with so many rumours surrounding his situation, Icardi has finally broken his silence.

“Despite all, I’ve always decided to stay…”

The Argentinian posted a lengthy statement on his Instagram page but it poses more questions than answers.

Icardi seems to ask for respect after all that he has done for Inter Milan.

Though, the cryptic part is that no one is sure who he’s asking for respect from.

His statement reads:

“I don’t know if there’s respect towards Inter and I on the part of those who make decisions.”

“I don’t know if there’s the desire on the part of someone to act and resolve things only and exclusively for Inter’s sake.

“Many things can happen in a family, good or bad. And out of love, one can stand for a lot of things.

“But respect must never be lacking. These are my values, these are the values for which I’ve always fought. In my story. At Inter. With Inter.”

“It’s at the most difficult times when true love is shown,” it began.

“It’s at those moments that I decided to stay at Inter, with Inter. When I felt that with my goals, I could help Inter get stronger, among many things.

“Stronger than the problems of FFP. Stronger than our difficulties, when so many wrote us off. At Inter. With Inter.

“And despite everything, I’ve always decided to stay. And for the love of these colours. I’ve refused offers that other players would’ve found difficult to refuse.

“I played with pain that brought me to tears after games, and the days that followed.

“But I’ve always insisted on forgetting any pain I felt, with the only objective of giving everything I could to help these colours. At Inter. With Inter.

“For my LOVE of the Nerazzurri colours because there’s only Inter. I’ve showed my children that hope must be maintained.

“I’ve taught them that winning was difficult, but that doing it with Inter has a unique meaning, that only a true ’interista‘ can understand and feel. My children’s eyes don’t lie.

“I realised my dream, I realised the dream of all us ‘interesti’, returning to the Champions League, with the team I was captain of. Because I’ve always felt and transmitted love for these colours.

“I don’t know if, at this time, there is love and respect”

“I’ve always disapproved of those who, at the first opportunity, tried to leave the club. I respected the fans, my teammates, the club and all the Coaches that have come and gone during my time here.

“I’ve collaborated with the club, both on and off the field, whenever a new player has arrived, showing them that only with passion can we reach our objectives.

“I know what love is for Inter and the Inter fans know this because they’ve seen how I’ve suffered, cried, fought and finally rejoiced in these colours. At Inter. With Inter.

“But like I said, all my sacrifices were made for the love of these colours, while respecting everyone.

“I don’t know if, at this time, there is love and respect towards Inter and I on part of those who make decisions.

Sergio Ramos given extended ban after deliberate yellow card

Big blow for Real Madrid

UEFA have given Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos an extended Champions League ban after finding him guilty of deliberately getting booked against Ajax.

The Spanish defender has been incredibly important for Los Blancos in the Champions League for many years but will now miss the next two games.

That will include the second leg of the clash with Ajax and the first leg in the round of 16 should Madrid progress.

This all comes after Ramos was adjudged to have deliberately made a cynical tackle in order to get a yellow card and miss the next Champions League game.

The reason Ramos would gain from this is that he would miss the Ajax second leg, something possibly less important than a crunch last-16 tie in the next round.

However, UEFA have now made sure he will miss both, finding him guilty of a deliberate booking.

“For clearly receiving a yellow card on purpose”

In a statement quoted by Goal, UEFA’s Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body claimed Ramos was guilty of ‘clearly receiving a yellow card on purpose’.

“The CEDB has decided to suspend the Real Madrid CF player Sergio Ramos for two (2) UEFA competition matches for which he would be otherwise eligible for clearly receiving a yellow card on purpose,” read the statement.

“The two-match suspension includes the automatic one-match suspension for the repeated cautions.”

The situation is actually almost identical to the one involving Dani Carvajal in 2017.

The defender was adjudged to have received a yellow card on purpose and missed the first leg of the last-16 as a result.

Now, Real Madrid will have to do without Ramos for the next two games.

Fulham’s Shahid Khan reveals reason for Claudio Ranieri sacking

Not what the club expected when they hired him

Fulham chairman Shahid Khan has revealed why the club have decided to sack Claudio Ranieri and replace him with former midfielder Scott Parker.

Ranieri may have only won the Premier League with Leicester in 2016 but he was tasked with saving Fulham this season.

After an appalling start under manager Slaviša Jokanović, the club were under threat of being relegated back to the Championship.

That lead to the decision to bring in Claudio Ranieri, which looked to do the trick initially.

However, Fulham’s recent form has left them extremely likely to be relegated this season.

Ranieri lost five of his last six games, with the Southampton loss Ranieri’s final life.

‘Claudio’s tenure at Fulham didn’t produce the outcome we anticipated and needed’

Now, chairman Shahid Khan has given his reasons for sacking the Italian.

He explained that Claudio’s appointment ‘didn’t produce the outcome we anticipated and needed’.

“Following our discussion this afternoon, Claudio Ranieri agreed to my decision that a change was in the best interest of everyone,” he explained in a statement on the Fulham website.

“Claudio’s tenure at Fulham didn’t produce the outcome we anticipated and needed when I appointed him as Manager in November, but be assured he is not solely to blame for the position we are in today.”

The future of Fulham football club

Interestingly Scott Parker was named as Fulham’s caretaker boss.

Judging by Fulham’s statement, there are no plans to appoint a new boss before next season.

It almost even sounds like Khan is resigned to being relegated and wants the club to prepare for life in the Championship.

“I am asking Scott Parker to serve as our Caretaker Manager,” Khan explained.

“Scott’s immediate assignment is merely to help us stabilize, grow and rediscover ourselves as a football club.

“What’s most important at this moment, however, is to regroup in a smart and deliberate manner that will serve our long-term vision for sustainable success.

“If we’re able to do that and win some matches to make a stand late in the season, all the better.”

Pep Guardiola claims Bournemouth game is ‘like a final’

Bournemouth vs Manchester City

Manchester City will travel to Bournemouth on Saturday the 2nd of March.

City head into the game on the back of a 1-0 won over West Ham on Wednesday evening.

Man City struggled to break down the Hammers and eventually took the lead from the spot after Bernardo Silva was brought down.

Bournemouth, on the other hand, are without a win in their last four Premier League outings.

They are 12th in the table and were smashed 5-1 by Arsenal in their last match.

Pep on City’s next run of games

Man City are currently 2nd in the Premier League, one point behind league leaders Liverpool.

City will also be without both Aymeric Laporte and Fernandinho for Saturday’s game after the pair suffered muscle injuries in the League Cup final.

With the title race seemingly going down to the wire, Pep Guardiola has insisted the game vs Bournemouth is like a final.

After Bournemouth and Watford, City will go three weeks without a Premier League fixture.

As a result, Guardiola wants his side to come back after the international break in a very strong position to continue their title challenge:

“We do not have too many players right now. It is the toughest moment of the season in terms of injuries.

“But, at the same time, we have enough players to compete.

“Hopefully we can make a good performance at Bournemouth and then we have one week to prepare the last game [Watford at home] in the Premier League for 21 days [before] focusing on [Champions League and FA Cup games against] Schalke and Swansea.

“That’s why it is a real final for us, the game at Bournemouth, to arrive [in a good position] after the international break when the people come back – like John, like Ayme, like Gabriel.”As quoted by AS.

Wolves looking to sign Man United target with €120million release clause

What a statement that would be

Wolves are looking to make a huge statement in the summer transfer window as they target a deal to sign Manchester United and Liverpool target João Félix.

The Portuguese starlet is making waves around Europe right now.

Playing at Benfica, the 19-year-old is considered to be one of the most talented youngsters in football right now.

He’s played 15 matches in the Primeira, scoring eight goals and assisting four.

Those impressive performances have lead to a plethora of reports about teams looking at him.

Premier League giants Liverpool and Manchester United have been linked with moves but they aren’t the only ones.

Both AC Milan and Juventus are also in the running for the player according to Fabricio Romano.

Now, a very unexpected club has entered the race to sign Felix.

The Jorge Mendes effect

That club is Wolverhampton Wolves according to Dean Jones.

The Bleacher Report journalist is claiming that Wolves are ‘going to work hard to sign Joao Felix from Benfica.’

Wolves have a strong Portuguese contingent due to their close relationship with Jorge Mendes.

Aside from their manager, Nuno Espírito Santo, they have Portuguese international players such as Rui Patricio, Joao Moutinho and Ruben Neves.

That’s not to mention Helder Costa, Diogo Jota and Ivan Cavaleiro.

Can they beat Liverpool & Man United to the signing?

Now, they are looking to add to that by signing Joao Felix.

One of the biggest stumbling blocks will no doubt be his €120million release clause.

That’s well outside of Wolves’ transfer budget.

Though, according to Dean Jones, ‘there is hope that with Jorge Mendes involved, something can be negotiated.’

Should Wolves manage to sign Felix, that would no doubt be one of the biggest statements they could possibly make in the transfer window.

Though, the likelihood of a deal happening is still very slim.

Caballero opens up on his relationship with Kepa after Man City incident

Kepa Arrizabalaga

Sarri benches Kepa vs Tottenham

Both Maurizio Sarri and Kepa have been grabbing the headlines in recent days.

Sarri wanted to sub keeper off in the League Cup final this past weekend due to him looking injured.

However, the Spaniard remained on the pitch for the full game, in which Chelsea lost on penalties.

Afterwards, Kepa would be fined a week’s wage by Chelsea FC for ignoring Sarri.

Then, on Wednesday, Kepa found himself on the bench in a must-win tie for Chelsea vs Tottenham.

Sarri explains why he chose to drop Kepa below.

Caballero on his relationship with Kepa

The man who replaced Kepa on Wednesday was Willy Caballero.

It was also Caballero who would have come on vs City in the final.

Caballero has proven himself in shootouts in the past with the Argentine being the hero in the 2016 League Cup final shootout for Man City vs Liverpool.

The ex-City keeper also looked visibly annoyed when Kepa refused to come off on Sunday.

Despite this, Caballero has insisted that he and Kepa’s relationship has not been strained by the incident:

“We passed the last few days in good harmony, trying to talk about things and how to beat Spurs, and we did it.”

“It was probably very important [what happened] because it was in a final but it doesn’t matter. We improved a lot and we are more together than ever.

“Is everything okay between me and Kepa? Yes, of course. We spoke about it after the incident and it was good to have a chat with him.

“He learned a lot from what happened, we learned a lot as a team.”As quoted by the Evening Standard.

Jesus called up for Brazil, Fernandinho left out

Double injury update

There have been some injury updates on Manchester City duo Gabriel Jesus and Fernandinho after the Brazilian national team announced their latest squad.

There will be an international break from the 20th March to the 27th, with several teams announcing their squads for that break this week.

With that, there have been some pretty interesting inclusions and exclusions.

The Brazil squad will be of particular interest for Manchester City fans this week.

That is because two of their Brazilian contingent, Gabriel Jesus and Fernandinho, have been struggling with injury of late.

Now, with the announcement of Brazil’s squad for the upcoming international squad, we have a better idea of their fitness levels.

Jesus in, Fernandinho out

First up is Gabriel Jesus, who has been called up to the Brazil squad.

Guardiola confirmed this week that both Jesus and John Stones are ‘coming back soon’ and Jesus’ inclusion confirms that is likely the case still.

It’s a different story for Fernandinho, however.

He has been left out of the Brazil squad for the next international break after limping off in the Carabao Cup final.

Guardiola said at the time that he would be out for ‘some weeks’ and that has been confirmed by the fact he is not in the Brazil squad.

Manchester City will certainly hope that an extended break for Fernandinho will have him fit and ready sooner than expected.

Vinicius handed first call-up

Another big talking point about the Brazil squad is Vinícius Júnior’s first call-up.

The Real Madrid starlet has really impressed since moving to the Bernabeu and many are now starting to stand up and take note.

That form has earned him his first call-up for his national team.

The first of many, no doubt!

Pochettino gives Jan Vertonghen update before Arsenal

Tottenham vs Arsenal

Tottenham and Arsenal will go head-to-head this weekend in the second North London derby of the season.

Spurs will be hoping to avoid a similar result to last time as they lost 4-2 and had a man sent off in this fixture earlier this campaign.

Tottenham, however, head into this game in somewhat poor form.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side would lose 2-1 to Burnley this past weekend.

Then, on Wednesday evening they were beaten 2-0 by an out of form Chelsea side.

Tottenham are now nine points behind league leaders Liverpool with their title hopes all but gone.

As for Arsenal, they are now 4th in the Premier League and have won four of their last five league outings.

The Gunners are also closing in on 3rd place Spurs with the gap between the two sides just four points.

Jan Vertonghen injury update

As a result, Spurs will be desperate for a win on Sunday.

Heading into the game Tottenham have one big injury doubt in Jan Vertonghen.

The Belgian missed the midweek defeat to Chelsea due to a hip problem.

Luckily for Spurs fans, Pochettino confirmed it does not appear to be a serious problem and Vertonghen will hopefully be back for the derby:

“Yesterday [Tuesday] he felt a problem with his hip, so he’s not available.

“Hopefully, it’s not a big issue and he can be available for the next game.”

Harry Kane will face no further action for Chelsea ‘headbutt’

Chelsea 2-Tottenham 0

After losing 2-1 vs Burnley this past weekend Tottenham needed an instant reply vs Chelsea on Wednesday.

Both Man City and Liverpool picked up three points in their games vs West Ham and Watford.

So, Tottenham had to beat Chelsea to stay in the title race.

Unfortunately for Spurs fans, they would lose 2-0 to a Chelsea side who had lost three of their last five league games.

Pedro opened the scoring for Chelsea in the 57th minute with a Kieran Trippier own goal sealing Spurs fate in the 84th minute.

Tottenham are now nine points off top spot and all but out of the title race.

Harry Kane will not be banned for Arsenal

As well as blowing the title race, Tottenham could also have been without Harry Kane for this weekend’s North London derby.

During the Chelsea clash, Kane and Cesar Azpilicueta squared up to each other with Kane appearing to headbutt the Spaniard.

As a result, many people were expecting Kane to face a ban and be out vs Arsenal.

In a somewhat surprising decision though, it was revealed on Thursday that Kane will face no further action.

Kane will now be available to start vs Arsenal on Sunday. The Gunners are 4th in the league and four points behind Tottenham.
